DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a campaign to implement Ramadan projects at a cost of QR37m in 30 countries including Qatar from which two million people are expected to benefit.

“QC will set up a total of 31 Iftar tents at a cost of more than QR7.5m across Qatar which will serve ready meals to fasting people,” said Faisal Rashid Al Faheeda, Executive Director, Executive Management of Operations of QC, at a press conference held at its headquarters yesterday.

He said that QC’s Ramadan projects in Qatar include offering various types of Iftar meals, which target workers and community gatherings in addition to distributing Iftar meals and Zakat Al Fitr to low-income families, organizing cultural programs and supporting voluntary initiatives in partnership with others.

He said that estimated cost of Ramadan projects inside Qatar is about QR16m, aiming to reach out to 630,000 people and projects outside Qatar will be implemented at a cost of about QR21m, targeting more than 1.3 million people around the world.

QC’s CEO, Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, urged Muslims to seize this opportunity to extend a helping hand to support those in need. Al Kuwari said the donation can be made through Qatar Charity’s Ramadan campaign  to implement its ongoing charity projects.

“The most significant Iftar meals projects in Qatar is Iftar tents for fasting people. A total of 31 Iftar tents will be set up at a cost of more than QR7.5m across Qatar which will serve ready meals to fasting people,” said Ali Ibrahim Al Ghareeb, Executive Director of  Local Operations Department of Qatar Charity.

He said that the beneficiary areas for Iftar tents are Al Khor, Dhakhira, Simaisma, Kharttiyat, Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan, Al Shahaniya, Al Wakrah, Al Wukair, Muaither South and North, Al Sailiya, Bin Omran, Bin Mahmoud, Umm Salal Mohammed, Al Kabaan, Al Aziziyah, Izghawa, Old Al Ghanim, Al Montazah, Ain Khalid, Al Shamal, Freij Abdul Aziz, Al Hilal, Rawdat Rashid, Al Jamiliya and Barzan. A total of 225,000 people, mostly workers, are expected to benefit from these tents.

“Another Iftar project is meals for single workers at Al Ghuwariyah, Simaisma, Al Khor, Al Khuraib, Al Shahaniya, Abu Nakhlah, Al Wakra. Th project will cost QR548,000 and benefit 18,000 people in a month,” said Al Ghareeb.

He said that under “From Home to Home” project, Qatari families will prepare and serve Iftar meals to low-income families with the aim to meet some of their needs adding that the project will cost QR 255,000 – benefiting 200 people per day.

He said that the project “Iftar Meals for Industrial Area Workers” will distribute Iftar meals to workers through special vehicles at the various locations of the Industrial Area, which will change daily to cover the largest number of workers during the month adding that the project will cost QR265,000 –  benefiting 400 people per day.

He said that Ramadan supply project will provide parcels containing essential foodstuffs for the month of Ramadan, which will be distributed among low-income families via coupons gifted by Qatar Charity at the beginning of the holy month adding that the project will cost about QR1.4mn – benefiting 2000 families.

LENTIL SOUP IS  TRADITIONALLY SERVED IN THE SUNSET MEAL (IFTAR) AFTER FASTING.

“The project of Mobile Iftar involves distribution of light meals prepared by Qatari productive families to motorists who were not able to reach their homes for Iftar at a cost of QR 382,000 – benefiting (500 people per day) 15,000 people in a month,” said Al Ghareeb.

“Qatar Charity (QC) is implementing its Ramadan projects for this year in 29 countries out of Qatar to benefit 1.3mn people with the focus on crisis and disaster areas, in addition to the poor and the needy,” said Mohammed Al kaabi, Director of Relief Department.

He said that the campaign implements three main projects including Iftar Project for a fasting person is divided into two main categories: Iftar tents for a fasting person and Ramadan baskets, which are implemented at a cost of more than QR15m to benefit one million people.

“Ramadan tents will serve Iftar meals to targeted people throughout Ramadan at a cost of more than QR10mn, benefiting about 820,000 fasting persons,” said Ahmed Saleh Al Ali, Director of the Information Department,” Mohammed Al Kaabi.

He said that Ramadan Baskets will provide parcels containing essential foodstuffs for the month of Ramadan, which are distributed to poor families at a cost of more than QR5m benefiting 156,000 people.
