Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC) yesterday announced that the Moto2 and Moto3 races of the Grand Prix of Qatar will go ahead despite the cancellation of the MotoGP race due to travel restrictions brought into force affecting riders mainly from Italy.

The season opening races of the Moto2 and Moto3 classes will run at the Losail International Circuit from March 6-8. The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup will also have their two races during the Grand Prix of Qatar.

FIM, IRTA and Dorna yesterday announced the cancellation of all MotoGP class sessions in Qatar, including the first MotoGP race of the season.

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has resulted in Qatar travel restrictions while all passengers arriving at Doha on direct flights from Italy, or having been in Italy in the past two weeks, will be taken straight to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.

Italy plays a vital role in the Championship and in the MotoGP class – both on track and off – and therefore the decision has been taken to cancel premier class competition.

The decision to go ahead with the event has come after LCSC took into account all the recommendations by the Ministry of Public Health.

“The MotoGP class cancellation for Qatar is difficult news to take, because now we do not know how long we will have to wait before we can start racing, considering the next GP in Thailand has been postponed for all classes,” seven-time MotoGP world Champion Valentino Rossi has said yesterday.

LCSC yesterday announced that all the tickets which have already been sold, will still be valid for the three day event with the initial set up for all the different areas such as grandstand, Losail Club and VIP Village remaining the same.

At the grandstand area fans can still enjoy all the activities scheduled (kids karting, kids quad bikes, skate park and a variety of food vendors) and at the Losail Club there will be live commentary of all the sessions with a live band.
