Doha: As part of its strategic plan to offer smoking cessation services across Qatar, Primary Health care Corporation (PHCC) has established clinics at eleven health centres.
Physicians trained and certified in tobacco dependence treatment provide effective counselling and medications to help clients quit successfully from the usage of tobacco products at PHCC’s Smoking Cessation Clinics.
Smoking Cessation Clinics are operating at Al-Gharafa Health Center, Mesaimeer Health Center, Omar Bin Al Khattab Health Center, Al-Daayen Health Center, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Health Center, Rawdat Al Khail Health Center, Al Ruwais Health Center, Leabaib Health Center, Al Wakra Health Center, Qatar University Health Center and Al Waab Health Center.
Services at Smoking Cessation Clinics include helping the person to make behavioral change to stay away from the habit of smoking specially at beginning of treatment and take care of healthy lifestyle and exercise. Also, medication prescribed to help smoker to remove the nicotine dependency, said the PHCC in a statement yesterday.
For appointments at PHCC’s Smoking Cessation Clinics can be made by self-referral by calling 107 and through family medicine physician. To access Hamad Medical Corporation’s ’s Tobacco Control Center’ services can call 50800959 (for further information) or 40254981 (for an appointment).
World No Tobacco Day is celebrated globally on May 31 each year and this year the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on smokers to commit to quitting for their health and wellbeing.
WHO has launches a year-long global campaign for World No Tobacco Day 2021 – “Commit to Quit.” The new WHO Quit Challenge on WhatsApp and publication “More than 100 reasons to quit tobacco” are being released today to mark the start of the campaign.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to millions of tobacco users saying they want to quit. The campaign will support at least 100 million people as they try to give up tobacco through communities of quitters.
