The potential coup de grace of the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette is getting closer to production.

A spy photographer caught a convertible version of what is believed to be the 2018 Corvette ZR1 driving near General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground northwest of Detroit.

Interior photos show that the car will be offered with an automatic transmission, most likely the 10-speed automatic co-developed by GM and Ford for rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

The car’s interior is on a par with other C7 models, but it features additional carbon fiber in the dash.

The exterior has an aggressive splitter in the front as well as a massive, distinctive spoiler on the rear. The vehicle has less exterior camouflage than those previously photographed.

The Corvette ZR1 is possibly the last new model of the current-generation sports car before the company is expected to move to a midengine configuration for the eighth-generation Corvette.
