A lot has been said about the struggles and challenges of long distance. We have thousands of movies, TV shows and even articles that have addressed this issue and applauded the reliance of couples who go through this ordeal. However, not many people talk about the challenges of long distance friendship. Distance, often pulls friends apart. Or that is what we have seen more often than not. But to stay best friends, when there is thousands of miles between you, is an experience like no other.

While many have been fascinated by the likes of having a pen friend, long distance friendship, in this age and day is unlike anything we know. My personal ordeal of having my best friend live in a different time zone, has brought me face to face with several struggles of long distance friendship, and Friendship Day seems like a good time to address these struggles. So let’s get started!

The late night conversations

If you want to see how close two people are, read their messages. While talking on the phone can become a task while living in different time zones, texting always comes to our rescue. From having the most strangest conversations about random celebrity gossip, to discussing life decisions and challenges, everything turns into a seamless conversations.

The Video Call Struggles

Ever tried to connect with someone on video call and suddenly, the whole world conspires against it? This is the struggle that every long distance friend faces. Whether it is an important announcement, a birthday wish or simply a conversation where you want to look at each other’s beautiful faces. Video calls will turn into a screaming competition with lagging pixelated pictures more than the seamless calls that the TVCs show. Fixing the right time and place for the calls is a completely different struggle all together!

The long-distance fights

If you think having a fight with your best friend who lives near you is the worst thing in the world, imagine dealing that along with the distance. While the number of fights become rather rare, the ones that do happen are the hardest to resort. When all you can do is keep calling, keep texting and coming up with innovative ways to make things right.

While these are just some of the challenges, there are various perks of having a friend you can count on, and who is always there for you, irrespective of the distance.

So this friendship day, let’s take a moment and give a shout out to all the long-distance friendships!
