Earn a Degree: Like any teaching degree, you must graduate from an accredited college with a bachelor's or higher degree in education. (a) A school district board of trustees or school district employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any teacher to join any group, club, committee, organization, or association. In this subchapter: (1) "Teacher" means a superintendent, principal, supervisor, classroom teacher, school counselor, or other full-time professional employee who is required to hold a certificate issued under Subchapter B or a nurse. DISCHARGE DURING YEAR OR SUSPENSION WITHOUT PAY UNDER PROBATIONARY CONTRACT. June 14, 2013. (c-1) The minimum academic qualifications for a certificate specified under Subsection (a) must require that the person receive, as part of the training required to obtain that certificate, instruction regarding mental health, substance abuse, and youth suicide. (c-1) If a school district or open-enrollment charter school becomes aware that a person employed by the district or school under a probationary, continuing, or term contract under this chapter has been convicted of or received deferred adjudication for a felony offense, and the person is not subject to Subsection (c), the district or school may, with the approval of the board of trustees or governing body or a designee of the board of trustees or governing body: (2) provide the person with written notice that the person's contract is void as provided by Subsection (c-2); and. 1, eff. (3) provide a process through which a teacher not employed at a campus described by Subdivision (2) may attend the academy if the academy has available space and the school district employing the teacher pays the costs of the teacher's attendance. The agency shall establish a program to: (1) assist persons who have served in the armed forces of the United States and are separated from active duty to obtain certification as an elementary or secondary school teacher in this state; and. 2018), Sec. (b) If the teacher fails to accept the contract within the period prescribed by Subsection (a), the teacher is considered to have refused to accept the contract. At a minimum, the annual report must contain: (1) the performance data from Subsection (a), other than the data required for purposes of Subsection (a)(3); (2) data related to the program's compliance with requirements for field supervision of candidates during their clinical teaching and internship experiences; (3) the following information, disaggregated by race, sex, and ethnicity: (D) the number of candidates completing the program; (E) the number of candidates employed as beginning teachers under standard teaching certificates by not later than the first anniversary of completing the program; (F) the amount of time required by candidates employed as beginning teachers under probationary teaching certificates to be issued standard teaching certificates; (G) the number of candidates retained in the profession; and. 757 (S.B.
